My document appears the way I want it on my computer, but when I print it, some of the images are not there. What happened? I am using MS Word and I can't get my document lined up quite the way I want it. Any suggestions? I typed in a clock face, then the hour and minute hands, but part of the clock seems to be missing. Where did it go? What is a font? Simply stated, a font is a set of characters associated with the keys on a computer keyboard. In most fonts, a=a, b=b, etc, though styles will vary from font to font. With 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts, each key on the keyboard is associated with some type of symbol. For instance, in clock font, when you press the "a", a blank clock face will appear. Does 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts work on PCs and MACs? Yes, it works on both platforms. What programs will 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts work with? 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts will work with virtually any program that allows you to select fonts, including word-processing programs (i.e Word, Clarisworks, Appleworks), spreadsheet programs (Excel, Works), and a variety of design software. Will it work on Windows XP? Yes, it will work with any version of Windows and MAC OS. How do I install them on Windows XP? You can install them per your instruction manual with the following changes. Select "Start", then "Control Panel". You should see a link labeled "Switch to Classic View". Select it and follow the remaining instructions in your manual. An alternative method is listed below: From the "Start" menu select "Control Panel" and then select the "Appearance and Themes" category. Select "Fonts" from the "See Also" panel at the left of this screen. On the "File" menu, select "Install New Font..." Click the drive and folder that contain the fonts you want to add. To select more than one font to add, press and hold down the CTRL key, click the fonts you want, then click on "OK" If these methods do not work, you can find the fonts folder by clicking on "Start" and going to "My Computer". From there, open (double-click) the C: drive, then the Windows folder, then the Fonts folder. Then you can start on step 3 above to install your fonts. Where did 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts come from? 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts was developed by elementary math teacher Chris Slaughter in Texas to aid in the creation of customized materials. Because of considerable difficulty in locating suitable images and clipart, as well as the tedium involved in "cutting and pasting" them into documents, these fonts were designed so that images could be inserted into documents quickly and easily. What grade level is it for? 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts is appropriate for all levels of elementary mathematics. How many fonts are there in 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts? There are now 22 fonts. We sometimes receive suggestions for more, and will develop those that are viable. If you might develop more fonts, shouldn't I wait to buy it? I wouldn't want to miss out... Waiting is not necessary. Each purchase comes with 1 year of free electronic updates. That means that if we make improvements or additions, we will send them to you via e-mail, complete with download and installation instructions. This way, you don't miss out, and you don't have to wait! Do you make math fonts for high school? Not at this time. I have an idea for a math font that would be very useful. Can you make it for me? If it is a font that we feel will benefit all elementary math teachers, we can make the attempt. Send your idea here for consideration. Can I use 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts at school and at home? Yes, the Single User License grants you permission to install 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts on both your school computer and your home computer. We recommend that you do this so that files you create in one place can be viewed in the other. Can I share my 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts with my friends and coworkers? No, the Single User License only grants you permission to use 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts on your home computer and school computer. While there is not a "Math Fonts Police", please consider that this kind of sharing is unethical, as well as unfair to the designer, a teacher like many of you. If several teachers at your school wish to use the fonts, or to share documents created with the fonts, ask your school to consider purchasing a School Site License. This license is much more cost effective than many teachers buying it individually. I am part of a home-school group that meets regularly. Is there a license that will allow all of our members to use 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts? No, but write to us here with information about your group and we will see what can be done for you. Why should I buy 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts? Simple. It allows you to customize materials for your students, it is cheap, and it is easy to use. My school doesn't like putting additional programs on school computers. Any advice? Yes, assure them that 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts is not a program, it is a collection of fonts to be used with your regular word-processing program, much like Times New Roman, Arial or Courier. Can I publish materials I have created with 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts? Absolutely, permission granted, and we would love to hear from you if you do. The only thing that we ask is that you acknowledge its use in your publication (i.e. "Some of the enclosed materials were created with 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts). Why can't other people view documents I make with 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts on the their own computers? If the person opening the file does not have 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts installed on their computer, they will not be able to view it as you intended. If you open a file that uses a font that you do not have, your computer will use the closest font that it can find. In this case, it will probably be a regular text font. I created a page that I want to e-mail to someone who does not have 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts. What can I do so they can view it? A.Encourage your friend to purchase 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts (we really like this one!), OR B.Send the file to us at lessons@justusteachers.com . If we feel that it is something that could be shared on our site, we will make a .pdf file of it and post on the Lesson Plans & Reproducibles page. The images on the document I made with 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts are too small, but I have used the highest setting on my word-processor's drop-down menu. Is there a way to make them bigger? Yes, highlight the number in the window of the drop-down menu by clicking in the window, holding down the left mouse button, and dragging across the number. Now you can type in the size you want. Many drop-down menus only go up to 96, but you can actually make fonts much larger. Experiment by increasing the size 10-20 points until you find the size you like. I have 1, 2, 3 Math Fonts, and some of the images do not appear clearly in my computer. What's up? Do not worry, some of the images appear on the screen this way in some word-processors if they are set at a small size. The images WILL print correctly. Some of the blocks I print have wavy lines. Is there a way to fix this? Yes, your printer needs to be set at a higher resolution. You can usually do this from the menu that appears when you select "Print" by clicking on the Properties of Options button. Draft output will often print figures with wavy lines. My document appears the way I want it on my computer, but when I print it, some of the images are not there. What happened? This is usually a memory problem. First, try closing all programs that you are not currently using, then try your print again. If this does not work, reboot your computer, make sure that no unnecessary programs are running, and try your print again. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to break your document into smaller pieces (1 or 2 pages each) and save them separately. I am using MS Word and I can't get my document lined up quite the way I want it. Any suggestions? Use "Text Boxes". You can place them anywhere you want on a document, with or without a box around them. You can get more information from MS Word's Help file. I typed in a clock face, then the hour and minute hands, but part of the clock seems to be missing. Where did it go? It is there, it just needs to be "uncovered". After typing in the minute and hour hands, press the Spacebar several times. The rest of the clock face will then appear. |
